Put-in-Bay Attractions have always been a special part of the allure of Put-in-Bay as a vacation destination. In the early years, large water slides, the first co-ed swimming pool in the United States and trendsetting offerings such as Ice and Ice cream were among the most popular. During prohibition, while most wineries fell to ruin, the Heineman Winery survived those difficult years by giving tours of the Crystal Cave and selling Grape juice. Perry’s cave where prisoners were held by the US Naval Forces now serves as a popular guided and narrated tour.
Perhaps what sets Put-in-Bay aside from her vacation competitors is not just the number of attractions in the area, it’s that all these attractions are packed together in one little 2.5 by 5-mile island where there are no stoplights, traffic jams or reminders of the big city life. All of the attractions at Put-in-Bay are easily reached in a Put-in-Bay Golf Carts in less than five minutes. South Bass Island combined with the waters of Lake Erie allows for an unsurpassed number of experiences all in one convenient location.
